This week was a work week. First I learned the art of darning. It’s like patching, but rather then sewing on another piece of fabric, I interweave fresh thread to replace the damaged area. The cuffs on my nice selvedge denim jeans had torn. Then I tweaked my pants pattern a bit and finally, as a treat, I checked in with Pyjama Kid for a little musical delight.

In this past week’s video, I was on the hunt for a traditional Irish cable knit sweater. I didn’t find one but instead found this vintage Adidas V-neck sweater. It’s beautiful, yes, but it turns out it’s a women’s sweater so I am selling it.

This week I stepped away from the sewing machine and ventured around the city. I was on the hunt for a vintage men’s cable knit sweater. You know those old style white ones you see old geezers in sheep fields around Ireland wearing? One of those.

Momma Quiring gave me this fabric over the holidays. Using the fabric as inspiration, I turned it into this 70s-esque mock neck. Also, this fabric is ever so delightfully soft and nice to wear so that’s a plus.

In Plautdietsch, we use an expression which translates to sunday clothes and refers to more formal attire worn on Sundays, often to church or social gatherings.

Then there’s a term that translates to ordinary clothes which is meant to represent clothes worn day to day for everyday situations & work.

This sweater can work in both.

I was gifted this knit jersey fabric over the holidays that has a really 1970’s vibe to it, so I decided to look to the aforementioned decade for inspiration. I ended up sewing a mock neck short sleeve with small side slits.

I was also featured as a “man who likes to sew” on the Love To Sew Instagram page, so for a halftime break, I thought we could have a listen to the associated podcast episode because surely they featured me there too … right?

It’s become established that I like pins to accent my wardrobe and so some of my friends will give me pins as gifts. It’s always a nice little surprise to see what they get and how it’s a reflection of how they see me.

They are on their 3rd set of soles, 2nd set of laces but most importantly, countless cleanings.

I don’t use anything fancy either, just an old rag to wipe down grime, a used toothbrush to clean the crevasses and some mink oil and a soft brush to treat the leather.
