I procrastinated, panicked and then scrambled last minute to come up with an idea for this week’s sewing video. I rushed to the thrift store, got a bed sheet and decided to just make a shirt.

Not only did it not go well, I had a not so helpful personality come give me a visit.

Part of the reason for posting these pictures is because it forces me to play with the clothes I have and this week, I came up with this cold weather look that I’m liking.

Most worthwhile things in life take twice as much time and effort than expected, or at least that’s what I am telling myself with these upcycled denim jeans.

I “finished” said jeans last week, but they were just a touch too big so this week I decided to take the extra time and tailor the jeans to get them just right.

Last week I took apart the oversize jeans I bought and this week I went about sewing my own pair.

It was more work than I anticipated and they didn’t quite turn out like I had planned. They have real 90s vibes about them, but they are a learning lesson and I figure I can just lean into the whole dad jeans thing. Own it, you know?

Last week I updated my pants pattern so this week I decided to try out said pattern. And rather than buy new fabric, I picked up two pairs of oversize jeans from the thrift store.

I could pretend like I’m doing it because I want to upcycle / recycle but the truth is why give myself the pressure of using new fabric or spending more money than I need to?

This week was a work week. First I learned the art of darning. It’s like patching, but rather then sewing on another piece of fabric, I interweave fresh thread to replace the damaged area. The cuffs on my nice selvedge denim jeans had torn. Then I tweaked my pants pattern a bit and finally, as a treat, I checked in with Pyjama Kid for a little musical delight.

In this past week’s video, I was on the hunt for a traditional Irish cable knit sweater. I didn’t find one but instead found this vintage Adidas V-neck sweater. It’s beautiful, yes, but it turns out it’s a women’s sweater so I am selling it.
